drawings

Drawing is amazing for so many reasons - It is a wonderful way to work through ideas; to visualise how you want something to look. It’s a great way to practice seeing (which might sound like something we all do, but in reality we all need as much practice as we can get). It is a great way of playing. Very often I approach drawing - as with other things I make - by thinking ‘I wonder what happens if…’ - what if I make some marks with my non-dominant hand? what happens if I shut my eyes and draw? what happens I work with a really thick brush? how could I draw how I feel right now?… etc.

In 2023 and 2024, I took up doing a drawing a day, and I am honoured to be a member of the ‘Sculptor’s drawing space’ which is a weekly online gathering that was set up by my friend and sculptor, Mark Richards FRSS during Covid.

Sometimes I draw in a photo-realistic way, sometimes in a very abstract way; sometimes with paint, sometimes with collage. I used drawing to explore working in layers -which is something that has been a hallmark of my sculpture for the past 15 years. In this section are a small range of my drawings - all of which are available to buy as A4 prints.

various media, each available as A4
