digby & alfie

Brothers, Digby & Alfie were created through a very enjoyable commission. Their owner collects art and asked me to create a portrait of his beloved old English sheep dogs.

I was hesitant to start with, but was persuaded to give it a go. Each has his own particular character, and the challenge with sculpting animals is to capture that.

I made the models of each out of plastiline wax, and passed the biggest test – the approval of the children! So I knew we were good to go.

As with all my sliced sculptures, I had the models scanned and sliced electronically, and I created small versions as maquettes to test how they would go together – which thankfully worked well.

The final sculptures weigh about 250kg each, and I am delighted to say they have a very happy owner.

If you would like to discuss commissioning a sculpture of an animal you care about, please feel free to contact me directly.
