EL TOTO I

I remember as a child reading ‘The story of Ferdinand’, a 1936 book that tells the story of a Spanish Bull who would rather smell flowers than fight in bullfights. I hope this sculpture captures something of that spirit.

I have made a number of versions in different sizes and materials - this one I made in acrylic - he’s on a granite base, but I think I would put future ones on a stainless steel plate which will be signed and dated, and then onto a wooden base. It is a presentation that has worked well elsewhere, and I enjoy the mix of materials.
