This is ‘Great White IV.3’. He is the third of the IV series, made in Jesmonite - a versatile, water-based composite material made from a combination of a mineral powder base and an acrylic resin creating a durable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional resins, plaster, and concrete - and it is made in Shropshire, UK. This edition is 70cm long, and he has been painstakingly covered in oil based 23 carrot gold leaf by the ever talented Roger Newton.
The Great White is the king of sharks. They are described as ‘the gardeners of the ocean’ because they play such a crucial role in the marine eco system - and yet mankind slaughters sharks by the millions every year.
Great whites are also known to be the most evolved creature on earth - having been around for some 450 million years.
I honour these beautiful creatures through this series of sculptures.
