I have been interested for a long time by what goes on inside my head! It is an interest that I have used art to explore because I don’t have the words!
The layered nature of the figurative work I make creates an aesthetic that allows for change as the angle of view changes and in different light at different times of day. For me, this reflects the aspect of constancy and change in our being.
There is a ‘drawing’ element to this ‘head space’ project which shows a number of views of my head! It was a pure accident that scanning technology back in 2011 wasn’t what it is today, and in the process the drawings here were what was picked up by the scanner – and the software had to stitch the images together. I think they are really interesting both in themselves, and as a reflection of the state of 3d scanning technology at that time!
These series of sculptures and drawings are reflective of an enquiry I was having at the time about my relationship with the world. I had sadly fairly recently been divorced, so much of what I had felt as stable was in fact feeling otherwise – so this was a part of ‘the work’.
